DEX: Best of 2018
View the best images taken by The Daily Examiner journalists, capturing life and events throughout the Clarence Valley.
The Daily Examiner takes thousands of photos each year of our local community, and this exhibition gives the chance to view the photos as art works, not bound within the confines of newsprint. There are portraits, sports action, hard news photos and much more, all taken from events happening each day within the Clarence Valley which show the diversity and personality of the area.
Dex: Best of 2018 is the annual retrospective of photographic work from the Daily Examiner journalists and photojournalists Lesley Apps, Caitlan Charles, Matthew Elkerton and Adam Hourigan. This exhibition explores and documents the hard news, sport and the many stories and personalities over the past year.
This genre employs images in order to tell a news story. Photojournalists must be well informed and knowledgeable about events happening right outside their door. The photographer needs to have more than just tan eye for the photo; they must accurately portray an event or scene while still maintaining a fascinating composition. In addition, the photographer needs to be fast and fearless and willing to push boundaries in order to get just the right shot.
The photographs in this exhibition present just a few of the thousands of stories the Daily Examiner covers and the people they meet each year. This exhibition celebrates a selection of work by the photojournalists of the Clarence Valley’s daily paper and reveals their passion to document and capture the life and events of the valley.
The best photographs of the Daily Examiner are presented each year by the Grafton Regional Gallery in partnership with The Daily Examiner. This series of exhibitions celebrate both the talents of our photojournalists and the diverse and active culture of the Clarence Valley. Take a look at what has grabbed our eye at the Daily Examiner over the past year in this retrospective exhibition of photographic work by Lesley Apps, Adam Hourigan and Tim Howard.
